File Preparation Guidelines
Accepted Applications

File Preparation for Digital & Offset
- If sending Working Files: link images within layout programs (Illustrator, InDesign, Freehand, QuarkXpress & Corel Draw), DO NOT embed images
- include linked images
- 300 dpi minimum for bitmap images
- ensure that all linked bitmap images are to size and not scaled down within layout program
- create the transparency effects and drop shadows in Adobe Photoshop
- convert fonts to paths within layout program (preferred) or include them with the files sent
- 1/8″ minimum outside the document edge is required for any bleed
- 1/8″ minimum safety zone inside the document edge is required for any text or graphic that does not want to be cut off
- when designing full colour artwork create in CMYK workspace, not RGB
- make sure black text is 100% black with no other colours added
- use vector objects when possible, avoid using text in Adobe Photoshop
- if custom bindery is required (spiral binding, hole punching, folding, etc.), please inquire for any adjustments that may be needed to artwork file
- make sure final Photoshop or TIFF bitmap images are flattened
- make sure ONLY files used are sent
- remove references to unused fonts and colors
- if possible, provide a colour accurate print proof
If sending a PDF:
- embed fonts
- if possible, provide a distilled PDF
- make sure settings are for Press ready
- do not put restrictions on PDF (passwords to open or print file)
- do not convert colours to process if Pantones are being used
- make sure bleed is added or included with the PDF
